4th Annual Spring Fest 2017

Award-Winning New York Made Indie Films

Are you a movie lover, especially of indie films? This weekend is the best time for you to see the best indie films made from all over New York State. The fourth annual Spring Fest is taking over the big screen at the Palace Theater. Syracuse Film Festival Director, Owen Shapiro, alongside the festival’s special guest, Samite Mulondo, discuss what this year has in stock for all of the local indie film fanatics.

A variety of stories will be shown in forms of documentaries, shorts, features and much more, all made by creators in New York. Samite, a Ugandan refugee, is a musician and storyteller who will be speaking and performing this Friday of the event. His story is featured in the Telly award-winning PBS documentary, that tells his story of returning to Uganda to spread hope with music. Samite even gave us a taste of his performance with his instrument called the “Litungu.”

Shapiro states that this weekend’s event is a great opportunity to learn about different cultures and see all the different types of films while also having a fun time. The 4th annual Spring Fest 2017 kicks off this Friday through Sunday at the Palace Theater. You can visit www.filminsyracuse.com for tickets and more information.
