Celebrating Women with Laci's Tapas Bar

Women Helping One Another & Excelling in Male Dominated Industries

International Women’s Day is today (March 8th) and are celebrating with women shaping the community in a positive way. Cindy Seymour, owner of Laci’s Tapas Bar in the Hawley-Green District of Syracuse tells us how women can inspire others not just today, but everyday.

Seymour started the first edition of Laci’s with her wife Laura Serway with Laci’s Coffee Cafe. The two now own Laci’s Tapas Bar at 304 Hawley Ave where the motto is "eat small, live large". With sous chef Jamie Countryman, they prepared parsnip gnocchi which is soon to be added to the menu. Seymour says that everything on the menu is something she would eat and their menu is composed of items that “all sound good to me... You will never see liver on the menu.”

Not only do the two own a successful business in a male dominated industry, they also pride themselves on their charitable duties. They co-own the nonprofit Serenity for Women which was created to help women who are facing day-to-day challenges transitioning to life after the military. Seymour made a huge announcement sharing that Onondaga Community College has donated 25 acres of land to be created into a serenity sanctuary for women veterans. The space will also incorporate an animal shelter which will help women veterans suffering with PTSD. As a military veteran, Seymour says this is something that is very important to her.

Seymour's partner Laura Serway was recently featured in Syracuse Women’s Magazine for all their charitable efforts. The Hawley-Green District has been listed as a nationally historic place since 1979. With a rich history stretching as far back as the 1840's, this place is making another remarkable statement today. The area is seeing a rich cultural and economic resurgence which is in large part thanks to Seymour and Serway's contributions to the community. The two have also helped shape this community into an LGBT-friendly neighborhood.
