Review of "The Founder" and "Split"

This week Movie Guy Brian Miller takes a look at two movies recently released on DVD for at home viewing.

The Founder, directed by John Lee Hancock, show the roots of the iconic American brand, McDonald’s, and how the franchise became an empire. Ray Kroc, played by Michael Keaton, is a struggling salesman who met burger restaurant owners and brothers, Mac and Dick McDonald. Kroc quickly sees an opportunity with the brother’s speedy cooking and turns it around to a multi-billion dollar fast food business. Miller thinks that Keaton’s performance elevates the movie as a whole and finds the story of how McDonald’s came about very interesting. He gives the movie 4 out of 5 stars.

Split is a new psychological thriller by M. Night Shyamalan. It follows the life of Kevin, a man who copes with 23 different personalities but faces a dilemma once a new 24th personality emerges. This new personality, much more dangerous than the others, has plans to kidnap three teenage girls. Kevin now has to fight for survival within himself and for those around him. Miller says the movie is a lot fun, but the end kind of trailed off a bit and broke the realism of it all. He adds that anyone who enjoys a good thriller will like this one. Miller gives Split 3 out of 5 stars.
