For the past eight years, the CNY Football Academy has brought professional athletes to Syracuse to work with children in the area. This year’s camp kicks off on Saturday, June 24.
The Academy expanded to include basketball last year and this year they hope to encourage more young girls to participate with their new cheerleading option within the camp.
Director of the program Michael Poirier and former Syracuse and NBA player Dennis Duval say that the goal of the camp is to encourage kids to participate and have an opportunity to learn from professional athletes.
No prior sports background is necessary for the camp, organizers just request everyone come out ready to participate and have fun. Much of their focus throughout the day is on teamwork and addressing issues that children face everyday. The fun-filled day of exercise and working with professional athletes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at SunnyCrest park in Syracuse.
The camp is free, but registration is required. To learn more and to register visit www.CNYFA.org.
