Newschannel 9’s parent company, Nexstar Media, is marking its 21st anniversary and employees are celebrating Founder’s Day with a Day of Caring. Employees were allowed to suggest local causes that were important for them to give back and, all day, employees will be working at either the Samaritan Center or ARISE at the Farm in Chittenango.
The Samaritan Center has been providing meals and assistance to those in need in Syracuse for over 35 years since its beginnings as a church effort for the homeless. Over those years, it has grown and evolved into a faith-unaffiliated nonprofit that works for the community every day. Volunteers provide case services and nutritious food to people in times of hardship.
ARISE is a nonprofit for children and others with disabilities, organized by people who are themselves disabled and serving over 7000 in CNY with a philosophy grounded in independent living. The Farm facility is a working horse farm that functions as a recreational facility for the benefit of individuals with disabilities.
We can think of no better way to mark the occasion of 21 years of action than volunteering for these organizations that give so much to the Syracuse community.
