OCRAA Recycling

OCCRA is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation created by the New York State Legislature that serves our community by providing a comprehensive solid waste management system.  Through innovative strategies such as waste reduction, recycling, composting, disposal and education, OCRAA makes our community a more healthy and sustainable place to live.

Throughout July OCRRA and your trash hauler make it easy to recycle your alkaline batteries.  You don't even need to go anywhere to recycle them!

What to do:
  • Just put your household alkalines in a yellow battery bag (you can get one from OCRAA - just email them your name and mailing address and they will get you one: info@ocraa.org.
  • Put the yellow bag on top of your closed trash can or bag in July and your hauler will deliver them to OCRRA for recycling. The bags must be visible, they should never go in your trash or blue bin or they will not be collected.
Why keep the batteries out of the trash?
  • More than 80% of all the batteries manufactured in the U.S. are alkalines.  So, there are a lot of them out there and if we can recycle them we should.
Fun Fact:
More than 100,000 pounds of batteries are kept out of our waste stream each year thank to community participation in OCRAA's battery program.
