Bridge Street

Turn up that Dial: MEMPHIS

It's a musical!  It's won Tony Awards! It's MEMPHIS!

MEMPHIS tells the story of a radio DJ who falls in love with a club singer.  The story is set in the 1950's and takes place in Memphis, Tennessee.

The show won four Tony Awards in 2010, including Best Musical.

Joel Elrose, originally from Long Island, stars as the radio DJ Huey.  Elrose's credits include Grease (Nat'l Tour), Rent (Welk Resort), Babes in Toyland (Lincoln Center).

Elrose says the music is very rock n' roll and soulful and they have a great time with the show.  But he says they also keep the significance and message of how dangerous that lifestyle was during the 1950's.

MEMPHIS opens tonight at the Mulroy Civic Center Theater at 7:30.  More information about other showings and tickets can be found on The Oncenter website.
