Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival 2017

A Diverse Season of Broadway Favorites

The new season of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival (FLMTF) will be beginning very soon and they have quite a diverse and wonderful group of shows to present this year. Brett Smock is the artistic director and he discusses the upcoming shows and how they chose to shape the season. It isn't an easy process but they look to create a full overall experience that is compelling to a variety of audience members.

The season opens with their Fundraising Gala on June 3rd, for all those looking to help support the arts, and immediately kicks off with the classic musical "Guys & Dolls" on June 7th. It has been 22 years since FLMTF put on a production of this favorite and this production promises to be an electric, fast-paced production. The production ends on June 28th.

Second in the season will be Jason Robert Brown's "Parade" which won Tony Awards for Best Book & Best Score. It tells the true story of Leo Frank who was falsely accused and charged with a heinous crime that became national news. The story is fascinating, compelling and Smock describes it as "acclaimed pieces in the musical theater cannon". That will run from July 5th through July 26th.

Following "Parade" is a show that hasn't been on stage for FLMTF for 30 years, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". The house is in jeopardy of closing and a town is divided by people fighting to save it and to let it close. It's a great time and audiences can enjoy that production from August 2nd - August 23rd.

The next musical puts one of the biggest film hits of all time to the stage, "Ghost the Musical". This production is a condensed version of the original Broadway and tour show with only 11 cast members. The show keeps the essence of the popular movie in tact and you can see it beginning August 30th through September 16th.

Finishing off the season is "Always... Patsy Cline" which is based on the true story of Patsy's friendship with Houston housewife Louise Seger and taken right from their pen-pal correspondence. It contains all the songs that you know and love and concludes the season September 21sts - October 11th.
