Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet many adults and children are still skipping it. Nutritionist Kelly Springer brings us some options so you can energize your morning.
Springer says as Americans we are great at getting carbs in the morning, what we struggle with is getting in protein. Fruit is filled with fiber, vitamins and minerals that will help fill you up for the morning. Paring fruit with foods rich in protein will keep you full for the morning so you do not get hungry before lunch!
Kefir has 12 active cultures and comes in many different flavors. This is a drinkable yogurt much like Danimals that is linked to good digestive health. If you do not want to drink it plain, mix it and make a smoothie. An added benefit is that it's 99% lactose-free in case dairy is something you might struggle with.
Springer also brought in Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt and added granola, almonds and strawberries. This is not only a great breakfast combination, but the yogurt alone is a great snack at work. You can also add the Greek yogurt to a smoothie or even use it in your cooking.
Finally, with nut allergies becoming more and more common, Sunbutter is a wonderful option. It is free of the top eight allergens and pairs well with whole wheat toast and bananas. Unlike nut butters, there is more zinc, vitamin E and iron in Sunbutter. However, the best part is you get as much protein as eating nut butters with less saturated fat. This breakfast option is going to keep you satisfied and give you energy throughout the morning.
Springer adds if you are still not convinced to eat breakfast, the cost of skipping it makes you more likely to overeat at dinner. Eating a healthy breakfast can be fun, easy, and taste good!
