Martin Luther King Jr. Food and Clothing Drive

Celebrate The Legacy By Helping Those In Need

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Food & Clothing Drive is this Monday and they're looking for you donations to help those in need. Helen Hudson is the Labor Liaison for the United Way of CNY along with Mark Spadafore who is part of the Greater Syracuse Labor Council and they discuss what types of items they are looking for.

The event has been going on for 17 years and began when the Syracuse Labor Council and the United Way saw a need in the community at shelters. The event is now one of the largest MLK Day events of it's kind in the nation. The types of donations that they're looking for are non-perishable food and new or gently used clothing. They are especially looking for winter clothing for children and they'll be working with the Syracuse City School District to distribute these to kids that might be struggling with the colder temperatures. People can also donate baby items such as diapers and formula as well as cleaning supplies, toiletries and school supplies.

While they usually are looking for volunteers, this year they are set. If you're able to make a donation, please visit the Southwest Community Center at 401 South Ave from 9am - noon and donate what you can.
