Ever wonder which restaurant in town has the BEST meatball dish? Syracuse will find out soon at Meatball Madness, all while supporting a great local cause.
This 14th annual meatball contest event will benefit Elmcrest, which serves at-risk youth within the community. The organization helps boys and girls with emotional, behavioral and psychiatric difficulties, as well as serious medical conditions and developmental disabilities. Every year, Elmcrest helps approximately 2,500 kids within the community, across 19 counties in CNY.
Chef Sam Mondello from Vince’s Gourmet is competing once again in the contest. In the past, he’s taken home the People’s Choice award as well as second place, but this year he’s hoping to take home top honors.
Mondello said it’s important to use good products.“Whenever you’re doing Italian cooking, it comes down to quality ingredients,” said Mondello. “You have to have really good meat, really good pork, the best cheeses."
The event will be judged by area celebrities, and judges from local courts. There will be a silent auction, an Italian buffet and performances by Micky Vendetti and the Good Times Band. The event will take place from 12 to 3 at the New York State Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at Elmcrest.org, or at Tops Friendly Markets.
