National Football Foundation's Scholar Athlete Award Dinner

Honoring Students for Achievements On and Off the Field

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will be honoring 81 high school and college football players this weekend, but not just for their accomplishments on the field. The Scholar Athlete Awards are given to gentlemen who not only excel in the game but also in academics and in leadership. Students are selected by their schools for who fits the criteria the National Football Foundation outlines. Over 1,000 individuals in Central New York have received this honor and over $400,000 in scholarships has been awarded.

Co-Chairmen of the National Football Foundation Rick Ranucci and Mike Albanese join us today on Bridge Street with Matt Jann, the Scholar-Athlete Award Recipient from Christian Brothers Academy. So often athletic awards are distributed mostly based on performance, but these awards really seek to honor those that have could be the next leaders of tomorrow. These recipients have been successful in the classroom and show a sense of leadership within their community. While one each participating school does have a scholar athlete, the committee evaluates all of the recipients and hands out the prestigious Al Vedder Award to the most exemplary individual.

The 17th Annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award Dinner will be this Sunday, January 29th at 2:00pm. The event takes place at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona. For more information or tickets, please visit their website at cnyfootballfoundation.com
