Raising Awareness for Women's Hockey and Money for Veterans

SU Women's Ice Hockey Hosts Fundraiser

Not only is the Syracuse University Women’s Ice Hockey team having a successful season but they is also hosting a fundraiser to benefit veterans! These ladies in orange are currently second in their league and they are committed to giving back to the Syracuse community. Team captains Emily Costales and Larissa Martyniuk stopped by Bridge Street to discuss how they plan to show support for veterans and service members in crisis.

During their game against Mercyhurst University this Friday, they will be wearing special military themed jerseys which will be auctioned off online after the game. Proceeds from the auction will go to the VA Hospital to support suicide prevention programs.

In addition to raising money for a good cause, the team is also raising awareness of women’s hockey. Women's ice hockey is growing in popularity in the US and the Orange are only hoping to help increase awareness of the sport. They said many people forget that SU even has a women's ice hockey team but their goal is to change that.

The puck will drop this Friday, at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Skytop Campus at 7pm and admission is free. For more information about the online auction, and to play a role in preventing veteran suicide visit www.cuse.com.
