Read Across America Day

Celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday Across The Country

Dr. Seuss is everyone’s favorite childhood author’s and in honor of his birthday local libraries across the country are celebrating with Read Across America Day.

Teen Librarian Renee Batelle from the Onondaga County Public Library and Children’s Librarian Katy Hayduke say that the initiative brings together teens, children, and schools to celebrate reading.

The initiative was started by the National Education Association as a way to celebrate reading as a lifelong habit. One way to get kids reading is to make it fun and let them pick any book they choose without any limitations. Battelle says that adults should also get reading on this day because as role models they can show their children a good activity to follow and look up to.

Libraries are also encouraging families to have their children ready to read before kindergarten and take advantage of all the resources and programs that any of the 32 local Onondaga Public Libraries are offering.
