How to Prevent and Treat Sore Throats

Advice from Five Star Urgent Care

Fall and winter months bring on cooler temperatures and that can often lead to the common cold and sometimes even sore throats.

Dr. LouAnne Giangreco of Five Star Urgent Care says there ares ways that patients can deal with issues related to sore throats. She warns that 50 percent of sore throats are caused by viruses. Other causes of sore throats can include allergies, bacteria, and even poorly humidified air.   

Symptoms of the sore throat virus can include trouble breathing, enlarged tonsils and white flem build up in the back of the throat. To prevent the virus, Dr. Giangreco reminds us to constantly be washing our hands to prevent someone and ourselves from getting sick.
