Marriott Syracuse Downtown Receives Recognition

Honoring History and Exemplary Hospitality

The Marriott Syracuse Downtown has revitalized downtown Syracuse. It is an important landmark for Central New York both currently and historically. In only a little over a year since reopening from the former Hotel Syracuse, the hotel has received two prestigious awards, the Historic Hotels of America Excellence Award and the Four Diamond Award from AAA.

Historic Hotels of America recognizes and celebrate the finest historic hotels in America and the Marriott Syracuse Downtown is now one of roughly 300 in the country to receive the Award of Excellence. Executive Director Larry Horwitz shares how they came to the the decision to award the local hotel and notes there is tough competition coast to coast. The community participation and meticulous detail work that was put into restoring the hotel put the hotel substantially ahead of the other finalists up for the award.

Hotel Owner Ed Riley once again credits the team on the development side and the associates who help run the hotel. 90% of restoration work from the furniture, to the construction, and contractors was done locally. The hotel also helped in the development of projects in the surrounding areas. The hotel wishes to help make memories, bring celebration and fun back to downtown.

The staff not only play a vital role in the restoration of the former Hotel Syracuse to become the new Marriott Syracuse Downtown, but also are crucial to the level of service and hospitality provided around the clock year round. Director of Public Relations & Communications Elizabeth Carey describes how the AAA Four Diamond award is made up of an elite group that has its own reputable status. Inspectors visit the hotel unannounced and the Marriott Syracuse Downtown treated them exceptionally well. Less than 6% of 28,000 hotels actually win this award. The hotel receives the award only a year and a half after opening, a true testimony to the hospitality and  excellence they provide to guests.
