Redhouse at City Center Opens With 'Golden' Show

‘On Golden Pond' First Production at New Arts Center

The Redhouse Performing Arts Center has transformed the former Sibley’s Department Store downtown into its new home. Now, that they are all settled in, they are transforming the stage for their first production of "On Golden Pond," for ten days only.

‘On Golden Pond’ is an American drama by the great screenwriter Ernest Thompson. The play focuses on the Thayer family and their long standing summer tradition. Each year the family spends the season on Golden Pond in northern New England. As time goes by, the family starts to drift apart, especially between Norman Thayer played by Fred Grandy and his daughter Chelsea played by Grandy's real-life daughter and actress Marya Grandy. The play focuses mainly on familial relationships and mortality, themes that are relevant to everyone.

This is the first time the ‘Loveboat’ star has performed with his daughter during his long career. Grandy’s daughter, Mayra says that working with her father in this American classic is a dream come true. “Doing this play together in this place is truly a sense of all the stars aligning,” she told our Tim Fox.
