The Community Umbrella also known as 'The U,' is a Syracuse based community organization that hopes to provide male role models to men and the youth within the community. Founder Cee-Jay Boatman came together with a group of local men in an effort to promote and create a positive environment for men and children within the community.
The U encourages self-esteem, promotes self-image and as well as respect for every man and others within the community. The organization also focuses on brotherhood, fatherhood, financing and social development in the Syracuse Community. Already, organizers have put on a few events including a barber and books event where children were encouraged to read a book and then could get a haircut.
The organization also holds open events at Chucky Cheese to provide support for male role models and to show support while also taking in a fun night out with the kids. Boatman says it's nice “to see everyone bridging the gap and lending a hand”.
The U is holding a Father-Daughter Brunch on Saturday March 17 from 10am-1pm. The event will be held at The Chess Club at 686 South Avenue in Syracuse.Tickets are $25. To learn more visit them on Facebook at #TheU.
