Nearly 3,000 people have called Francis House home during their last moments of life and the expenses to help give people what they need in their last days is critical to the organization.
To help cover the costs of each resident, Francis House relies on donations and volunteers. One way that people can help is by participating in their annual "There's No Place Like Home" event.
Tickets are on sale for $50, with eight different food stations, drinks and a silent auction. They are also selling keys to various houses throughout the night. Each key unlocks a prize for a few lucky winners.
Fundraising efforts help with at least a fourth of the budget of the year to those who cannot afford to be alone because they may not have family to take care of them. More than 400 volunteers provide meals, tend to and sit with residents. They also help with gardening and maintenance.
"There's No Place Like Home" is happening on Wednesday October 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Horticulture Building at the New York State Fairgrounds.
If you can’t make it to the event, a silent auction is underway today online. Visit francishouseny.org.
