Sean Martinelli

Sean joined the NewsChannel 9 team in November 2016 as a reporter.

From the age of 8, Sean would race home from school everyday to catch his favorite afternoon talk shows on TV, followed by the game shows he loved at night.

He would drag his family down on the train to New York City from his home in Poughkeepsie to attend live tapings of those shows when he could, hoping to see the behind-the-scenes magic of it all up close.

And when other kids did singing or dancing routines during the elementary school talent shows, Sean once hosted a 10-minute talk show with his friend, complete with a host chat, and interview segment.

So, it’s clear he’s had a love of TV for most of his life. And that meant he only wanted to apply to one college: Syracuse University (thankfully he got in), where he studied Broadcast and Digital Journalism at the Newhouse School.

After graduating SU in 2015, Sean spent a year as a reporter at NewsChannel 9’s sister-station, WUTR, the ABC-affiliate in Utica.

He is humbled by the opportunity to now work at NewsChannel 9 and continue sharing stories of the folks who live in Central New York.

Above all, Sean hopes to use this platform to highlight the work of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. He believes great television has the power to inform, inspire, and make us all feel more connected.
