Birth rate slowing according to government report

The number of babies born last year - a little shy of 4 million - is a few hundred less than the number in 2011, according to a government report released on Friday.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The number of babies born last year - a little shy of 4 million - is a few hundred less than the number in 2011, according to a government report released on Friday.

Among the signs of a possible turning point; the birth rate for women in their early 30s inched up for the first time since 2007.

According to the latest numbers - from 2012 - there were 63 babies born for every 1,000 women, ages 15 to 44.

It's the lowest rate for women in their 20's since the government started to keep track of the birth rate.

There are a couple things that may have caused this, including families holding off on having children because of the economy and more young adults putting their professional lives first, before starting a family.
