Extreme eating 2013: Which restaurants have the highest calorie meals?

A new report card lists some of the highest calorie meals offered at chain restaurants in America.
(ABC) -- A new report card lists some of the highest calorie meals offered at chain restaurants in America.

Compiled by the Center for Science in the Public Interest – or CSPI – the advocacy group says it’s not just desserts we need to watch out for.

One of the worst waistline offenders is IHOP’s country fried steak and eggs, which has 1,760 calories, 23 grams of saturated fat and way too much salt and sugar.

Thinking about heading to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner? You may want to get something other than the bistro shrimp pasta. The dish contains 3,120 calories – that’s more calories than many people need in a day and a half.

Also making the list, Maggiano’s veal porterhouse steak, which has more than 1,900 calories and that’s before you add the side dishes that come with the meat.

While some restaurants already help you make better choices by posting calorie counts on their menus, all chain restaurants will soon be required to do the same.
