4.4 magnitude earthquake west of Ottawa, Canada felt in Central New York

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 4.4 magnitude earthquake centered 15.5 miles NNE of Shawville, Canada was recorded at 9:43 a.m.

A second, 3.3 magnitude earthquake was registered at 9:53 a.m. 11 miles NE of Shawville, according to the USGS.

Shawville is a town in western Quebec, about 48 miles west of Ottawa.

The initial report from the USGS registered the first earthquake as 5.0 magnitude, but it was later downgraded.
