Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Police are putting you ‘On The Lookout’ after they say a woman took a wallet accidentally left on the counter of a Syracuse store.

During the holiday rush, it's easy for a shopper to get distracted. This is exactly what police say happened last month to a woman shopping at the Dollar Tree on at 416 W. Seneca Turnpike in Syracuse.

As the woman paid for her purchase, she placed her wallet on the counter in front of the register. She grabs her bags and walks out the door, leaving behind the wallet.

“The victim walks out and you can clearly see the woman in line and she takes an opportunity and very quickly takes a bag and puts the wallet in the bag, and walks right out,” said Sergeant Tom Connellan with the Syracuse Police Department.

The victim rushed back in to the store once she realized she left her wallet on the counter. But it was too late.

“This is probably something we're going to see a lot of. There are a lot of grinches out there, so be sure to have your wallet secured,” Sgt. Connellan said.

Police say the woman’s vehicle can be seen in surveillance video, and believe it could possibly be a dark green Ford Explorer.

If you can help detectives identify the suspect, you are urged to call (315) 442-5222.

All tips will remain confidential.
