Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police are looking for a suspect who threatened to stab a woman with a hypodermic needle and took off with her purse on Saturday evening in the Destiny USA parking lot.

The robbery was the first such incident at the mall in several years, police say.

Two women entered the “Purple” parking lot at the mall in the evening and went directly to their car, according to a police report.

As they tried to enter the car, a suspect reached for the woman’s purse. The struggle escalated, with the woman falling and the suspect climbing on top of her, kicking her in the head.

While the pair still tugged at the purse, the woman’s friend ran around the car and tried to pull the suspect away.

The suspect reportedly responded by threatening the women, telling them he had a needle,

They told police the suspect then ran west toward a wooded area.

Police and an Onondaga County K-9 unit set up a perimeter and tried to find the suspect, but they were unsuccessful.

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 20s. He is approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build.

During the incident, he was reportedly wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
