Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police say a woman on the North Side was elated to win a scratch off ticket, but moments later had her joy snuffed out when a thief stole her wallet.

Police say the entire theft was caught on tape at the Byrne Dairy Store located at 1400 Butternut St., and now they are asking you to be On The Lookout for the suspect in the video.

The victim scratched off a lottery ticket, won and went to the counter to cash out her winnings. But, in her excitement, she accidentally left her pink wallet on the counter when she left the store.

That’s when police say the thief came along and seized the opportunity to turn someone else’s misfortune into their gain.

“She fumbles around pretending she's taking some stuff out of her purse, you see the wallet stolen, and the suspect walks out,” said Sergeant Tom Connellan with the Syracuse Police Department. “She's probably from the neighborhood; she looks like she walks to the store. She's a black female who appears to be in her 40's or so.”

Police say the suspect is seen in the video wearing a black and white striped sweater with a green colored polo shirt with an "R" on it.

If you have any information that can help police locate the suspect, you are urged to call (315) 442-5222.
