Syracuse Police release surveillance video connected to deadly shooting

Syracuse Police are hoping surveillance video captured the night of a shooting outside the B&B Lounge on South Avenue will help them locate a suspect in one of the city’s more recent homicides.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police are hoping surveillance video captured the night of a shooting outside the B&B Lounge on South Avenue will help them locate a suspect in one of the city’s more recent homicides.

Early Sunday morning, Sept. 30, 23-year-old Rodney Maddux was shot and killed outside the popular bar on the city’s Southside.

Maddux was among several people shot during the incident, which followed a fight between several women. Maddux was the only victim who died as a result of wounds sustained in the incident.

Police say that surveillance video released on Wednesday shows the suspect seconds before and then second after the shooting.

Moments before the deadly incident, the video shows a dark-colored car pulling up near the scene of the crime.
The suspect is only seen briefly.

“He walks to the car, then he walks away. We believe that is the shooter,” said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan.

Police believe the shooting happened just seconds after the man walks out of the camera shot.

Police say witness information and other leads have pointed them toward the suspect.

“There are people down there that day who know who the shooter is and could probably name him for us,” Connellan said. “The man who got killed here was truly an innocent victim who was just trying to break up a fight.”

The surveillance video was recorded outside the bar facing the side parking lot.

Police say the bar has been very cooperative and has been working with them in an effort to curb crime in the neighborhood.

Anyone who has any information on the incident should call police at (315) 442-5222.
