Scammers claiming to call from 'Do Not Call' registry or the FTC: The Real Deal

The Better Business Bureau of New York has sent out an alert to consumers telling them to beware of scammers who claim they’re from the Do Not Call Registry or the FTC.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Better Business Bureau of New York has sent out an alert to consumers telling them to beware of scammers who claim they’re from the Do Not Call Registry or the FTC.

The callers ask for personal information including your name, address, and social security number.

They say they are confirming that you are on the National Do Not Call Registry or offering you an opportunity to sign up.

But sharing any personal information with the callers will put you at risk for identity theft.

The Better Business Bureau advises you to just hang up the phone.

If you want to add your number to the Do Not Call Registry, go to DoNotCall.gov or call 1-888-382-1222.

If you want to know The Real Deal about something, call the Your Stories team at (315) 446-9900 or email YourStories@9wsyr.com.
