The Better Business Bureau says you should be wary of opportunities to invest in other businesses. They say know the value of the product and its true costs.

Charity pitches from needy causes and neighborhood fundraising projects warrant added caution. Check out the charity website Give.org before donating to make sure the charity is legit.

Also, think twice before participating in coupon book promotions. Problems can occur if the promoters change the terms of the coupons to make them more attractive to buyers.

Finally, accepting surplus merchandise at a reduced price may mean accepting other obligations as well. You could be left with demands for added payments.
