Cicero (WSYR-TV) – The Cicero Falcons cheerleaders are headed to Florida to compete for a National Championship.
But team members say it’s more than just another competition.
The team of 15-year-olds embarked for the competition from Hancock International Airport on Tuesday morning.
“I am really excited. I love being with my team and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Shereena Farhoud.
Their coach says that sisterhood is what makes the team so special.
“They're all best friends. So it's great to see them on the floor and off the floor. They're just a great group of kids,” said coach Jackie Taylor. “They've gone since Aug. 1 practicing. They learned a routine and practiced it nonstop.”
The competition is on Thursday.
They will join two other Cicero groups in Florida from different ages. One of the teams has already claimed a national title for their age group.
