How do I report a mechanic who overcharged me? Your Stories

Question: Where do I go to report a mechanic who overcharged me?
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question: Where do I go to report a mechanic who overcharged me?

Answer: You can go to the Department of Motor Vehicles, but only after you’ve exhausted some other options.

The DMV asks people to attempt to settle the matter with the garage first. If that doesn’t work, submit the complaint to the DMV no later than 90 days or 3,000 miles after the repairs were completed.

The only exception is in the case where you have a written warranty that may exceed the time or mileage limits.
