‘Picture Me Studio’ closes without filling customer orders: Your Stories

If you had Easter pictures taken at a “Picture Me Studio,” you may not have received them yet. The St. Louis-based company “CPI” suddenly shut down more than 2,000 of its picture studios that were located inside Walmart and Sears stores.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- If you had Easter pictures taken at a “Picture Me Studio,” you may not have received them yet.

The St. Louis-based company “CPI” suddenly shut down more than 2,000 of its picture studios that were located inside Walmart and Sears stores.

Three-year-old Madison’s mom wanted took her to have pictures taken inside the Picture Me Portrait Studio located inside the Oneida Walmart.

"I was excited, and telling everyone I got these awesome photos done of my daughter, and I couldn't wait to get them,” Rene McGuigan said.

McGuigan ordered more than 100 prints from the studio, at a cost of about $200, and still hasn’t received them .

When she called to pick up the pictures she said there was no answer, so she went to the studio and found it was closed.

“I would hope they are good enough to honor the fact that the pictures were taken and I had already paid for them, so it's very frustrating,” McGuigan continued.

If you log onto the company’s website, you see a message announcing the closure and telling folks that they’re trying to fill as many orders as possible. They also say to contact the customer service department at the Walmart or Sears location where you got your pictures taken for help.

A manager at the Oneida Walmart says they do have some customer pictures that the studio left behind.

NewsChannel 9 tried to contact CPI, but the number was disconnected.

Both Sears and Walmart say CPI is a separate company that just leased space and they’ll try to help customers get their orders.

Sears’ statement regarding the issue:

“We were notified on Thursday, April 4, that CPI is ceasing its U.S. operations at retailers across the country immediately. CPI is a separate, publicly traded company that managed and operated Sears Portrait Studios as a licensed business. We are working with CPI to help ensure that it fulfills its outstanding orders and provides ordered pictures to our Members and customers. We’re telling customers that they had pictures taken at a studio and would like to pick them up please come into a store and ask any associate for the Manager On Duty and they will attempt to help. We regret any inconvenience this has caused our Members and customers.”

Walmart’s statement regarding the issue:

"We know that family photos are incredibly important to our customers. We are working to help ensure our customers receive the photos they ordered from CPI. If we are not able to get the photos from CPI, we will refund the cost of the photos to customers with a valid receipt at the customer service desk at the store where the order was placed. Customers can also call 1-800-Walmart if they have any questions."
