Question: What should I do to fight off the flu if I’m a senior citizen whose immune system isn’t as strong as it used to be?
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question: What should I do to fight off the flu if I’m a senior citizen whose immune system isn’t as strong as it used to be?

Answer: What you might need is a high-dose shot.

Older people are subject to more serious flu infections every year because immune response wanes as people age.

The so-called high-dose flu vaccine contains four times as many antigens as a standard dose flu shot.

A recent clinical trial conducted by one vaccine manufacturer found the high-dose shot performed significantly better against lab confirmed flu in seniors.

Upstate University Hospital says its Kinney Pharmacy carries the shot for the carries the shot for people 65 years old and older. It costs $54, as opposed to $30 for the regular shot.

Anyone interested in the high dose flu vaccine should call the local pharmacy.
