Why aren’t certain property transactions posted on the county website: Your Stories question

Question: Why aren’t older transactions posted on Onondaga County’s real property tax website?
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question: Why aren’t older transactions posted on Onondaga County’s real property tax website?

Answer: County Director of Property Tax Services Donald Weber says it usually takes six to eight weeks for new sale owner information to appear on the department’s website.

He says there are multiple reasons for such delays:
  • Last year, Onondaga County participated in a pilot program to accept e-copies of one of the transaction forms, as well as hard copies, resulting in technical and procedural challenges that caused a temporary backlog.
  • The servers that host the county’s real estate info online are more than a decade old and suffer from performance issues. The problem should be fixed with the acquisition of two new servers.
  • Some transfers require additional information. For example, if a deed description doesn’t match what the buyer or seller intended to convey before the department can complete its work and post the new information.
