Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Central New York biking community is remembering the life of a North Syracuse woman who was killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.

31-year-old Jen Hamlin died over the weekend after she lost control of her motorcycle on Cicero Center Road on Saturday.

Her best friend Eric Mazulewicz struggled to hold back tears as he remembered someone so close that he considered her like a sister.

“It can't be Jen, it can't be her,” Mazulewicz recalled.

Their group of friends had just made plans to go see Jen's favorite band Shine Down in concert, but that changed on Saturday when Mazulewicz received a call that she was involved in a motorcycle accident.

“My buddy Rob called me and I found out the devastating news that it was her,” Mazulewicz said. “You just don't want to believe it, that it was her.”

For hours, friends and family hoped and prayed that she would pull through; until they found out the news they all had feared.

The news came as a shock to her biking family. They say her energy was infectious and for anyone who met Jen, so was her passion for riding.

The roads of Central New York were her safe place. The place that brought her happiness and peace.

Even in the midst of tragedy, her friends are vowing to make sure Hamlin’s spirit lives on.

Next month, the group will have a special memorial ride for Hamlin to celebrate her life and keep her memory alive.

They say that they hope to make this a special tradition for many years to come.
