Central Square man sentenced to 15 years to life for seventh DWI conviction

A Central Square man could spend the rest of his life in prison after being sentenced this morning for repeatedly drinking and driving.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A Central Square man could spend the rest of his life in prison after being sentenced this morning for repeatedly drinking and driving.

48-year-old Allen Cehfus has been convicted of drunk driving seven times.

On Thursday in Onondaga County Court he was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the latest incident.

He has served time behind bars for four prior drunk driving convictions.

“Alcoholism is a disease, but it isn’t a disease that forces you to get behind the wheel of a car. Let’s be clear, he’s not being punished today because he’s an alcoholic, he’s being punished today for drinking and then getting behind the wheel of a car and making the conscious decision to drive,” said Assistant District Attorney Chris Bednarski.

Bednarski says the sentence should send a strong message to people regarding drinking and driving.
