Cops: Oswego County man charged with felony after assaulting arresting officer

An Oswego County man is facing charges after Sheriff’s Deputies say he assaulted and injured an officer trying to arrest him.
Oswego (WSYR-TV) – An Oswego County man is facing charges after Sheriff’s Deputies say he assaulted and injured an officer trying to arrest him.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Jason Skellington, 30, of Kasoag Lake Road in Altmar was being arrested for possessing a stolen homemade trailer worth about $500 when he kicked and shoved an officer.

The officer was injured during the incident in the town of Williamstown, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Skellington was initially arrested for criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor.

After the encounter with the officer, however, he was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Town of Albion Court and taken to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in Town of Williamstown Court on May 1.
