Crews from several fire departments battle large brush fire in Lafayette

The fire started before 2:00 p.m. Lafayette Fire Department Chief Greg Hoxie told NewsChannel 9 the cause is believed to be a campfire that got out of hand.
LAFAYETTE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Firefighters from several departments are on the scene of a brush fire near Dodge Road and Route 20 in Lafayette on Sunday.

The fire started before 2:00 p.m.  As of 7:40 p.m., firefighters were starting to leave the scene.

The fire burned relatively close to some homes.  The back yards of the homes border the brush area.

Fire trucks were standing by and are parked in front of homes and buildings that are threatened.

A helicopter was used to help put out the flames.
