Family posse in Louisiana rescues kidnapped woman, kills attacker

An accused kidnapper and domestic violence suspect is dead after being tracked down by the victim's family in Louisiana.
Lafayette Parish, LA (WSYR-TV) - An accused kidnapper and domestic violence suspect is dead after being tracked down by the victim's family in Louisiana.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department ruled the shooting was justified, after a family member shot and killed the suspect.

That relative will not be charged.

Deputies found the suspected kidnapper's car abandoned Wednesday night, the same night 29-year-old Bethany Arceneaux disappeared.

They used bloodhounds to search for her on Thursday, but found nothing.

The next morning, about 20 of Bethany's relatives showed up to offer help.

At about noon on Friday, a cousin of Bethany says he heard her screaming inside a house.

"She just hollered. She hollered like her life was in danger and when they heard the hollers, they said, man, just a chill went through they body," Marcus Arceneaux said.

Marcus says when he kicked down the door, he saw the kidnapper stab Bethany, so he pulled out his handgun and shot the man.

Police say the kidnapper, Scott Thomas, had a child with Bethany.

She had a restraining order against Thomas, but police say he had violated that restraining order before.
