Fire at Pathfinder Industries in Fulton

Pathfire Industries in Fulton was heavily damaged by a fire that started Saturday night on North 3rd Street. Firefighters worked well into Sunday afternoon to put it out.
FULTON, NY (WSYR-TV) – Pathfire Industries in Fulton was heavily damaged by a fire that started Saturday night on North 3rd Street.

Firefighters worked well into Sunday afternoon to put it out.

NewsChannel 9 spoke with one of the owners of the family-owned business, who said at least one of the buildings is a loss.

According to the company's website, Pathfinder Industries was founded in 1971 and has been passed down through three generations. The company employs 25 people to make sheet metal and machine parts.

"This is an enormous loss," said Acting Fulton Fire Chief Paul Foster. "Not only to the community, but especially to the employees and the business owners here."

When firefighters arrived just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, heavy smoke and fire was coming from the roof of the building. The flames and structure itself made it a hazardous situation for firefighters who couldn't enter the building.

“It was an exterior operation right from the start,” said Foster.

Fire departments from four surrounding areas, including Oswego, came to help.

Foster said it is rare for the Fulton Fire Department to get mutual aid from Oswego, but in this case it was necessary in order to put out the fire from above.

"Their assistance was very, very help last night providing us with an aerial,” said Foster.

Firefighters focused on preserving the company’s storage area that was not attached to where the fire started.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.

A cause is still under investigation.
