Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A former local sportscaster and former Syracuse University employee has been arrested on allegations that he recorded male student-athletes in a locker room unlawfully.

Roger Springfield was charged with four counts of unlawful surveillance in the second degree, a felony, on Tuesday morning.

Springfield - whose legal last name is Cahak - pleaded not guilty. He was released from Onondaga County Court on his own recognizance before leaving to be booked by Syracuse Police.

Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick said that their investigation began when a Syracuse University employee found 15 minutes of video recorded in a football locker room in Tampa, Fla. Springfield is not being charged locally in connection to that alleged discovery, but it did lead the authorities to obtain a search warrant.

Upon executing the search warrant, law enforcement agents say they found four videos recorded locally of multiple Syracuse University teams in the locker room, including the men's lacrosse team, the men's soccer team, and the football team.

The DA's office says that other videos were found that had been recorded in other states - namely Ohio and Massachusetts.

Investigators say that 108 victims have been identified and most of them have been contacted.

Springfield was a sportscaster at WSTM-TV for more than a decade.

After his years at the television station, he worked as SU’s director of media properties and productions.

His attorney, Jim McGraw, said there is no evidence of sexual misbehavior.

Springfield was fired by Syracuse University on Dec. 13. On Dec. 14, he offered to cooperate with the District Attorney's Office.

He is scheduled to return to court within the month.
