Fundraiser to be held in support of child suffering from brain tumor

Pennellville (WSYR-TV) - The family of a young boy battling brain cancer is looking for help from the Central New York community.

Doctors recently discovered that Aiden Erwin of Pennellville had a malignant brain tumor.

They were able to remove most of the lemon-sized tumor, but the rest of the tumor will require months of chemotherapy.

The boy’s aunt – Renee Senn – and a group of young professionals are teaming up to help the family with its medical bills.

Senn says the happy-go-lucky boy’s condition took the family off guard.

On March 21 – after 10 hours of brain surgery – doctors discovered the tumor. It had developed on the part of his brain that controls vital functions, like breathing and heart rate.

The boy recently began the first of five rounds of chemotherapy – a process that will take months.

For now, his aunt says Golisano Children’s Hospital will be his permanent home until at least Christmas.

Days after the diagnosis, Senn started organizing a fundraiser that’s growing bigger by the day.

"It's crazy when bad things happen, how great people can be, how everybody came together and they want to help out. And that, in turn, makes everybody stronger,” said Senn.

Valued Industry Partners – a group of local young professionals – is teaming up with Senn to put the May event together.

The fundraiser will be held Sunday, May 5 from noon to 4 p.m. at Sharkey’s in Liverpool.

Tickets are $15 and the event will feature live entertainment, face painting for the kids, and plenty of auction items.

More information is available at this website or on a Facebook page dedicated to the event.
