Manilus Police ask citizens to add new safety belt to wardrobe

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – In light of people becoming more active to stay in shape, local police are encouraging people to add a belt to their wardrobe.

Manlius Police are asking citizens who walk, run or bike outdoor to wear a new reflective safety belt.

“The patrol officers will be provided with these belts and if pedestrians are observed running, walking or riding without reflective clothing, we're going to make contact and offer this to them, free of charge,” said Manlius Police Officer Ben Kapusta.

In addition to reflective clothing, Manlius Police remind runners to be alert of their surroundings and to keep the volume on their music low so they can hear oncoming traffic.

The safety belts were donated by the Trooper Foundation and local business, Sno Top Ice Cream Shop.
