Meeting set to discuss future of I-81

Massive changes could come to the stretch of I-81 that cuts through the city of Syracuse within the next few years.
Salina (WSYR-TV) – Massive changes could come to the stretch of I-81 that cuts through the city of Syracuse within the next few years.

Officials are still listening to public comment on the future of the interstate in the Salt City.

Tonight, a meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn on Electronics Parkway to discuss the changes.

“It'll be determined by a lot of factors, including traffic operations, environmental impact, community impact. Economic development is critical to this. No one wants to do anything that hinders economic development. Everyone wants to do something that will enhance economic development,” said James D'Agostino of the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council.

The new installment of “The I-81 Challenge” will begin at 6 p.m. An additional region-wide meeting will be held later in the month.
