Officials trying to identify body found at scene of Eastwood fire

Police say a body was found in the basement of a home in Syracuse's Eastwood neighborhood after a fire Thursday afternoon.

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Police say a body was found in the basement of a home in Syracuse's Eastwood neighborhood after a fire Thursday afternoon.

Syracuse police officers and firefighters responded to the home on Lamson Street around 3:30 p.m. after a passerby called 911.

Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan confirmed an adult was found dead in the basement and officials are trying to confirm the person's identity to notify the next of kin.

Police believe two people live in the house, but are not sure if they were home when the fire started.

The fire began in the basement and there wasn’t much damage to the first floor of the home, according to police.

The Syracuse Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.

Police say the fire does not appear to be suspcious at this point in the investigation
