Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse police were split overnight, investigating two separate crime scenes that appear to be unrelated.

First, officers were called to North Geddes Street, near Wilkinson Street and Richmond Avenue, just after 2:00 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Sgt. Tom Connellan said police arrived within minutes to find a large crowd near two wounded people on the street.

Alex Xavier Rivero Rosa, 20, of Syracuse was shot in the head and pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital a couple of hours later.

Airstedes Lopez, 28, was taken to Crouse Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, while being treated for a gunshot wound on his face.

The suspect is described as a hispanic male.
