Rain ends this morning, chilly this afternoon

(Friday Morning October 12, 2012) Rain will greet you this morning as you head to work or school. The rain will taper off during the middle of the day (perhaps ending as some wet snowflakes over higher terrain) and some sun will return in the afternoon. Skies clear tonight with a killing frost over all of central New York.
It’ll be a rainy start to the day, with temperatures in the upper 40s this morning. It’s possible some snowflakes could mix in with the snow over the Adirondacks. The rain will occur in advance of a cold front, which will move south through central New York Friday morning. As the front moves south, it will take the rain along with it, and we should be done with precipitation by midday. Even with some breaks of sun, temperatures really shouldn’t warm this afternoon, as fresh cool air gets infused into our area.

Northwest winds will be gusty at times during the afternoon, but with high pressure moving virtually overhead Friday night, the winds will go calm and with clear skies, temperatures will plummet. A freeze warning is in effect for all of CNY Friday night with the expectancy of low in the mid 20s.

Saturday will be sunny, and after the chilly start, temperatures will warm to near 55. Sunshine through midday will be replaced by clouds, and it won’t be much after sunset Saturday that rain will return to our area. A strong area of low pressure is forecast to move into the Great Lakes Sunday, which will bring us a windy and warmer end to the weekend. There will be a few showers, but there should be some rain-free time as well.
