Syracuse Police say that the suspect in the killing of a pizzeria owner on the city’s South Side has been arrested.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police say that the suspect in the killing of a pizzeria owner on the city’s South Side has been arrested.

According to police, 24-year-old Eric Woody was taken into custody in Niagara Falls.

Syracuse Police say the Syracuse Fugitive Task Force developed information on Woody's whereabouts and passed it along to their Buffalo counterparts.

Members of the Buffalo Fugitive Task Force say they found Woody hiding in a cupboard under a sink at 731 8th St., Niagara Falls.

He was wanted for murder in connection to the shooting death of 38-year-old Shqair Shqair during an attempted robbery at Sabatino’s Pizza on Ballantyne Road on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Woody will be transferred back to Syracuse to be arraigned on charges including murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Police believe Woody was caught on surveillance video during the time of the incident.

Shqair was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury after several hours.

Police had been looking for Woody for weeks, without success.

His criminal history includes weapons charges.

Although he is allegedly a member of the Bloods gang, police said the incident at the pizzeria was not a result of gang activity.
