Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police are eager to catch a suspected grocery store wallet thief and they’re asking for your help.

Police say the man pictured in the attached surveillance photo stalked a customer at the Price Chopper location on Erie Boulevard and stole her wallet.

The victim was a 94-year-old woman, according to Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan.

She didn’t notice her wallet was missing until she went to pay.

Sgt. Connellan says the suspect was caught on camera snatching the woman's wallet out of her purse as she reached down to get some Jell-O off the shelves.

“Right after he snatches the victim’s wallet, he puts the basket down and bolts out of the store,” Sgt. Connellan told NewsChannel 9.

The suspect was seen getting away in a white car – possibly a late 80s, early 90s Cadillac. Police say the suspect stopped at several gas stations along Erie Boulevard where they say he used the victim’s credit card at least 15 times. Police say he bought a carton of Newport cigarettes during one of his stops at the Key Convenient Mart.

The well-dressed suspect is around 5’10” tall and around 160 pounds.

Police are asking you to take a good look at the attached surveillance photos. If you recognize the vehicle or the person suspected of stealing the woman’s credit card, call Police at 442-5222.
