Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A beloved Syracuse musician whose career dates back 70 years was honored Friday night.

The last original member playing with the Stan Colella Orchestra, 79-year-old Joe Carfagno, was recognized at the season finale of the city's Dancing Under the Stars event.

Friday night wrapped up the 38th year of the summer program of music and dance, and Carfagno took time to reflect on his incredible career, in which he's been the backup musician of greats such as Tony Bennet and Sammy Davis Junior.

“Through the years, we have performed with some great legends and I've played for marvelous musicians and I'm thankful that I'm still around to be able to play music, at my age,” Carfagno said.

The pianist was recently inducted into the North High Hall of Fame and he also received the Sammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in his career.
